Cold weather won’t stop White Plains NYE revelers
It may be a bitterly cold night this Sunday, but that won't stop tens of thousands from ringing in 2018 on the streets of White Plains.
With just two days until the largest, and probably the brightest, New Years' Eve celebration outside of Times Square in the area, White Plains is getting ready for its New Year's Eve Spectacular.
Officials tested the giant 8-foot diameter ball, and it's thousands of LED lights, that will make its way down to tens of thousands of people on Court and Main Street at midnight.
And even though this year is expected to be a bone-chilling 5 degrees, that won't stop the revelers from coming out in droves, packing the city's streets for a celebration like no other in the county.
"Dress warm, wear hats, wear gloves, dress in layers and be prepared to have a good time, but be smart about how you dress," says White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.
Mayor Roach also says that security is heightened every year, and this year is no different.
For the 14th year in a row, Heineken USA will provide free rides home from downtown White Plains to anywhere across Westchester County. The Safe Rides transportation stand will be on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue between 11 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.
News 12 will carry special coverage of the New Year's Eve Spectacular Sunday starting at 10 p.m.
