Hudson Valley starts celebrating Kwanzaa

Today is the start of Kwanzaa.
It started back in 1966 and honors African-American culture.
Kwanzaa means "first fruits of the harvest" in Swahili and is based on ancient customs in Africa.
Seven candles are lit each night of the weeklong holiday, highlighting the seven principles of Kwanzaa, which include unity, creativity and faith.
