Tractor-trailer hits broken down motorists on I-95
Two New York City residents were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries overnight after they were hit by a tractor-trailer on I-95.
Sources tell News 12 that the accident happened around 3 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway near exit 18A in Harrison.
State police say a car driven by a 27-year-old New York City man had stopped on the shoulder of the road due to mechanical problems on the southbound side of the highway near exit 18A in Harrison.
A car driven by a 26-year-old New York City woman stopped in the right hand lane to help him. It’s not known if they knew each other.
The two were standing in front of their cars when they were hit by a tractor-trailer around 1:15 a.m. They were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with life-threatening injuries
Lanes of the southbound highway were closed for about four hours, causing massive back-ups, but the accident was cleared and all lanes were reopened in time for the morning rush hour.
The truck driver was not injured and no tickets have been issued.
