Some fear Peekskill bar decor will incite violencePosted: Updated:
A new Southern-inspired bar and restaurant in Peekskill is leaving a sour taste in some people’s mouths.
Louie Lanza's latest project is the Eagle Saloon, a Nashville-inspired bar serving unique Asian delicacies and live country music.
The restaurant features a massive American flag with a rifle replica mounted on it. Next to it, is the Gadsden flag, which reads "Don't Tread on Me." It’s from the American Revolution, but in modern times, the flag represents political movements such as libertarianism. Some say it's offensive.
“This has nothing to do with politics. I don't care about politics,” says Lanza. “I look back and I see my grandparents who fought for this country. We wouldn't be where we are today to have the freedom of speech.”
A portion of sales from the bar go toward supporting law enforcement foundations, but despite the mission, some say the decor is inappropriate because it could promote violence.
Lanza's not concerned by naysayers, especially those on social media. He says he's focused on pleasing customers. Lanza also offers discounts to servicemen and women.
