Officials: Laser pointed at Suffolk police helicopter

Posted: Updated:
CENTEREACH -

Authorities say a green laser was pointed at a Suffolk police helicopter early Thursday morning in Centereach.

The helicopter was searching for a missing 15-year-old at the time of the laser attack.

Video of the incident appears to show a green laser darting across the outside of the helicopter while it flies overhead.

Police questioned people inside a home on Stewart Circle, which belongs to Stephen Ruth. He made headlines as the "Red Light Robin Hood" after tampering with the county's red-light cameras.

Ruth told News 12 that no one in his house pointed the laser. He said that police asked about the laser pointing and about a car that he says was stolen from across the street.

Suffolk police would only say that they are investigating the incident.
