HARTSDALE -

The state Attorney General's Office has taken over the investigation into the death of 21-year-old Jonathan Maldonado.

Maldonado, who is the nephew of incoming Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader, died after an incident that involved police on Wednesday.

Greenburgh police say they were called after someone tried to steal a cellphone from the Best Buy in Hartsdale. They say a struggle ensued and they used a Taser.

They also say Maldonado swallowed several packets of an unknown substance before the struggle.

A spokesperson for the attorney general says the Special Investigations and Prosecutions unit will determine if there will be any charges.
