Tractor-trailer driver killed in fiery crash on NJ Turnpike

EAST BRUNSWICK -

The driver of a tractor-trailer died Thursday after his vehicle went off the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick and became engulfed in flames, New Jersey state police said.

Authorities said the crash happened at 3:50 a.m. on the turnpike’s outer northbound roadway at the Joyce Kilmer Service Area. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

The right lane in the area of the crash was blocked for several hours but has since reopened.

The incident is under investigation.
