'Turkey Bowl' helps raise funds for former Clarkstown football star

More than 270 players on 26 teams signed up for this year's Turkey Bowl at Clarkstown South High School – an event that benefits a former star football player who was paralyzed last year.
The flag football event raised money for Tommy McGuire, a 2011 graduate who was paralyzed in a swimming pool accident in June 2016.
"Initially, when it happened, the doctors did not think he was going to have any movement below his neck," said his father, Tom McGuire.
But his son has regained some movement by doing physical therapy five days a week.
"He is definitely making some progress and we are optimistic he will continue to make progress," said McGuire.
Organizer Alyssa Breslow said the event was able to raise $13,000 last year. They aimed to raise $15,000 this year.
All the money will go toward McGuire's medical expenses.
