Police in Milford have identified the man who held officers at bay for eight hours in his apartment.
According to the state medical examiner, Ronald Schiraldi, 49, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday.
Police say Schiraldi crashed his car near his apartment before refusing to come out of his apartment.
Schiraldi’s sister was driving up to the apartment after he made some suicidal type comments that concerned her.
Police tried to enter his apartment using canine and robot entry, but attempts were unsuccessful.
A five-man entry team had successfully entered the apartment around 8 a.m., and that's when they found Schiraldi dead in the apartment.
Police say he lived alone and is a registered gun owner.
Part of the building was evacuated and traffic was diverted during the standoff.
