Father of 11 killed trying to protect son from robbery

A father of 11 died Tuesday night when he was stabbed to death while trying to protect his young son from a robbery.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office says that Jose Malave, 30, was found dead outside his home on Palisade Avenue in Jersey City after an altercation with a 17-year-old who tried to steal shoes from Malave’s 8-year-old son.
According to NJ.com, a family member says the suspect tried robbing Malave’s sons sneakers earlier in the day and later came back to the family home to take more.
Police arrested a 17-year-old, who is being charged with the murder. His name was not released due to his age.
Police say they are still investigating because more people may have been involved. They are asking for anyone with information to call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, at 201-915-1345.
A GoFundMe page was set up asking for donations to help the family pay for funeral arrangements and with the expenses of his 11 children.
