Community School District 18 teamed up with the newly opened Fairway supermarket in the Georgetown Shopping Center to give away Thanksgiving turkeys to families in the community.
The turkeys were picked up in the morning, packed into a van and brought to Superintendent Beverly A. Wilkins' office in Canarsie.
"To see families coming out always warms my heart," Wilkins says.
Wilkins helped the district partner up with Fairway to donate 200 turkeys to families from 21 schools in the area.
"We want to show the community that we are a part of it," says Fairway general manager Oumar Cisse. "We want to make sure we give back."
