New York City Public Advocate Letitia James on Tuesday released her watchlist for the city's worst landlords for 2017.
Ervin Johnson landed at No. 14 on the list. His building at 401 Macon St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant has racked up 357 Housing Preservation and Development violations and nine Department of Buildings violations.
Residents say their living conditions are unbearable and that they have dealt with rodents, leaks and mold, as well as a lack of hot water, electricity and mailboxes.
The list names Jonathan Cohen as the year's worst landlord. He owns 19 buildings in the city, 18 of which are in Brooklyn, with more than 1,000 housing violations.
A statement from Cohen's company, Silvershore Properties, says most of the violations were issued before it purchased the buildings.
"We have been extremely proactive about addressing any issues in each of the buildings," the statement reads. "The violations can not be removed until there is an inspection; majority of the work has been completed and we are awaiting an inspection date."
News 12 reached out to Johnson for comment but did not immediately hear back.
