Tappan Zee Bridge demolition impacts early morning Metro-North service

TARRYTOWN -

The Tappan Zee Bridge demolition impacted the Hudson Line train service this morning.

Train service between Irvington and Tarrytown stations was closed from around midnight through 7 a.m.

The closings were due to crews continuing work to dismantle the Old Tappan Zee Bridge.

Crews are using a super crane to lift sections of steel above Metro-North's Hudson Line.

Some of those steel pieces weigh around 1,300 tons.

Demolition of the old bridge is expected to last about a year.

The new bridge is expected to open sometime in 2018.
