Cheddar Afternoon Business Update 11/8: Uber, Waymo, Disney

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Uber is partnering with NASA on software to manage flying taxis, similar to they way it revolutionized transportation on the ground. It's NASA's first formal contract covering low altitude airspace rather than outer space.

Waymo is working on a fleet of self-driving taxis. The company is currently testing the program outside of Pheonix with self-driving Chrysler Pacifica minivans. There's currently a driver behind the wheel, but going forward, the passenger will be the only human in the car.

Disney reversed its decision to ban the LA Times from press screenings of its movies. The company had initially revoked access after the Times ran a story about Disney's business ties with Anaheim that Disney thought was unfair. Film critics from the Washington Post, New York Times and others threw their support behind the LA Times, saying other film critics threw their support behind the Times, saying they would boycott Disney press screenings in solidarity.
