Trick-or-treaters load up on candyPosted: Updated:
Kids across the Hudson Valley dressed up for trick-or-treating on Halloween Tuesday night.
In Yonkers, businesses opened their doors and handed out treats to families across the downtown area. "The best part is Yonkers is giving kids a safe haven this year, because normally we're just floating the street all night trying to find something to do and with this you have all these fun activities in one place, how could you turn it down?" says Clatoya Whitehurst, of Yonkers.
And in Rockland County, children with special needs had a special Halloween celebration. Jawonio, in New City, held its annual party complete with costumes, trick-or-treating and spooky fun.
Parents say it's a great way for the kids to feel included and enjoy the day. "I think it's nice because Zachary has a lot of sensory issues; he's not very social. This puts him in that atmosphere without too much pressure," says parent Amanda Hercak.
The preschool teaches children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
