Attack ad on Latimer linked to billionaire Robert Mercer
Posted: Updated:Billionaire Robert Mercer is wading into Westchester politics and spending some of his money on a super PAC that is attacking Democratic candidate for county executive Sen. George Latimer.
The "Win for NY" ad attacking Sen. Latimer has been linked to the billionaire conservative, who has reportedly forked over almost $1.5 million to the super PAC to support Republican County Executive Rob Astorino.
The hedge-fund manager, who was one of President Donald Trump's biggest supporters, helped bankroll Breitbart.com, the website now run by former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.
Astorino, who picked up an endorsement Wednesday from the Coalition of Uniformed Officers, says Latimer can't be trusted.
"Here's a guy who does not write a check to City Hall to pay his taxes, who has completely lied throughout this whole campaign,” he says.
Even though Astorino has hit Latimer pretty hard on his property tax record during his campaign, Latimer says Astorino is just using that as a distraction.
"He can't defend his record. He can't defend the things he's done for eight years,” says Latimer.
Voters head to the polls in 13 days.
