Ex-NBA star from Mt. Vernon briefly hospitalized after confrontationPosted: Updated:
A former NBA star from Mount Vernon is now back home after a confrontation with a woman at his downtown business ended with him being hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation.
The Mount Vernon sports rehab and recovery center owned by former NBA star Ben Gordon was the scene of an apparent confrontation Saturday afternoon between Gordon and a female friend.
The disturbance caused police to descend on the "Of Our Own" center, and shut down a section of Gramattan Avenue.
General manager Jamar Davis says the whole incident was a big misunderstanding. He says the woman was the one being confrontational.
According to published reports, the former Chicago Bulls player had an argument with his friend and told her to leave. When she packed her bags to go, he locked the door.
"She was sitting right there at the door, he was in the tub, that's the story, that's what happened,” says Davis.
Davis also denies Gordon had a box cutter with him. Gordon was rushed to a hospital in Harrison for psychiatric evaluation and released the same day.
Gordon was not charged, but a few weeks ago he was arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly setting off fire alarms in his apartment complex.
