Car plunges into Bronx River

Drivers on the Bronx River Parkway had a slow commute this morning after traffic backed up due to a car which left the parkway in Tuckahoe and plunged into the water.
Police say it was just after 7 a.m. when a Black Honda Civic traveling northbound went into the Bronx River near Exit 8/Vermont Terrace.
Officials say the driver skidded off the parkway onto a grassy riverbank before driving the car into about two feet of water. They say the driver was able to climb out of his car on his own. He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The car was pulled from the water around 9 a.m.
