Neighbors, classmates say man accused of shooting Yonkers officer was not hostilePosted: Updated:
Former classmates and neighbors told News 12 they were in disbelief over the charges against Frank Valencia, who is accused of shooting a Yonkers police officer in the chin earlier this week.
Police say Valencia shot Officer Kayla Maher on Monday night in the Park Hill section of the city. Officers returned fire, striking Valencia and sending him to Westchester Medical Center. He was arraigned there on attempted murder charges Thursday.
Nicolas Trucchio, a former classmate of Valencia at New Rochelle High School, says Valencia had issues at home with his family and suggests the charges against him could prove false.
"He wasn't hostile or mean," says Trucchio, who suggested Valencia may have been provoked.
Neighbor Jamel Hollis says he doesn't see much of Frank, but says Valencia's parents are "upstanding" and "great, sweet people."
Valencia and his alleged accomplice, Jerry Reyes, will be back in Yonkers City Court in October.
