Yonkers city officials are calling for the MTA to move its bus garage off a valuable waterfront property, but the MTA is not budging.
At a news conference outside of the garage Thursday, officials called on New York City, which owns the four-acre parcel of land and leases it to the MTA, to relocate.
"This bus garage serves no purpose, none whatsoever to the Yonkers residents or its visitors," Mayor Mike Spano says. "It obstructs additional economic development that will continue to revitalize our waterfront."
City officials say not only is the MTA taking up valuable waterfront real estate, but it hasn't paid taxes on the property in 20 years. Spano says this is because of a tax exempt loophole.
News 12 has reached out to the MTA and New York City officials and is waiting for a response.
Yonkers officials say they will ask Gov. Andrew Cuomo to intervene.
