MOUNT VERNON -

Police have arrested a Mount Vernon High School student for allegedly shooting at his own grandmother.

They accuse Alquane Atkinson, 17, of shooting at his 60-year-old grandmother as she pulled into her driveway Tuesday. One bullet pierced the car and grazed her leg, police say.

Atkinson's grandfather, Lloyd Quelch, says his grandson stole $4,000 from him, which prompted the grandparents to kick him out of their home.

Ten other people were in the house at the time of the incident, but no one else was hurt.

Charges against Atkinson include attempted assault and attempted robbery. Police say they also suspect him of attacking a cab driver. Police say they recovered a gun.
