Wawa: Maggots in man’s sandwich ‘highly unlikely’
Wawa says that reports that a Ewing man found maggots inside one of its sandwiches are “highly unlikely, if not impossible to occur in our store environment.”
“Outside of this single, unauthenticated video, our robust internal investigation shows there is no evidence that substantiates the claims made in the video,” the company said in a statement on its website.
The company goes on to say that it will put the allegation through their authentication and assessment process.
Wawa says that its stores are inspected on a daily basis and that there are processes in place to prevent incidents like this from happening.
Ewing resident Chris Garcia told the Trentonian that he bought a buffalo chicken cheesesteak hoagie on Saturday from the Wawa store in Ewing before returning home. Garcia claims after a taking few bites, he noticed sauce from the sandwich was moving.
Garcia’s mother recorded video of the maggots crawling on the sandwich wrapper and posted it to YouTube.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
