The Yonkers police officer who was shot in the face Monday night is in serious but stable condition and is expected to be OK, according to police officials.
The 26-year-old female officer, whose identity has not been released yet, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment and underwent surgery Monday night. "This could have been so much worse. Thank God the officer didn’t sustain a life-threatening injury. She was struck . She is in serious but stable condition, but thank God she's going to be OK," said Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner.
Police said two officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Yonkers. As they approached the two suspects, one of them took out a gun and an exchange of shots erupted. One suspect was struck and hospitalized, and the other was taken into custody.
