Injured Yonkers officer taken to Bronx hospital

NEW YORK -

The Yonkers police officer who was shot in the face was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment.

News 12 is told that the female officer, whose identity was not released, was undergoing surgery Monday night. Police officials said she was in serious but stable condition.

There was a large showing of support for the injured officer, with many police vehicles stopping by the hospital.

Police said two officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Yonkers. As they approached the two suspects, one of them took out a gun and an exchange of shots erupted. One suspect was struck and hospitalized and the other was taken into custody.

The injured officer works out of the Yonkers Police Department's Third Precinct.
