Challenger dethrones Delhomme in Spring Valley mayoral primary

SPRING VALLEY -

Former Spring Valley Justice Alan Simon dethroned Mayor Demeza Delhomme in a Democratic primary Tuesday evening.

Delhomme had made waves calling himself the king during town board meeting.  Delhomme was also accused of misconduct and mismanagement since taking office in 2013.

Simon also has a spotty past of his own: The former judge was removed from the bench last year after inappropriate behavior toward lawyers and others.

He says he is ready to turn the page and already has big plans for the village, including affordable housing, helping residents afraid of deportation and creating after-school programs.

If he's elected, his plans would have to be approved by the embattled village board.
