Shootings precede J'Ouvert festival in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN -

At least three people were shot, one fatally, in a series of shooting just the hours before the J'Ouvert festival in Brooklyn this morning, according to police.

The shootings happened just blocks from where the festival is held. It is unknown yet whether the shootings were connected or if they were somehow related to the festival.

This year, security was tightened following back-to-back years of deadly violence at the festival.

Thousands of people had to pass through police barricades and metal detectors and no backpacks, weapons or alcohol were allowed.
