SUFFERN -

Students at Suffern High School are now a part of the Suffern Central School District.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law to change the district’s name from the Ramapo Central School District.

School officials say the district was often mixed up with the embattled East Ramapo School District.

"There are times where there is confusion because of the name. We really wanted to eliminate that confusion and we feel like the name Suffern Central will eliminate that,” says Superintendent Doug Adams.

East Ramapo has had a troubled past, including financial issues and disputes between the school board and the community.

School officials in Suffern hope that the district’s new name will help tell them apart.
