Power outage hits county airportPosted: Updated:
A power outage forced the Westchester County airport in Harrison to run on back-up power today.
About 700 customers in Harrison and Rye, including the airport, lost power around 9:15 a.m. today after the failure of two electrical cables.
Over a dozen backup generators were activated so that crucial areas of the airport operation could continue such as flight tower, security, baggage claim and ticketing areas.
The airport manager tells News 12 that flights coming in and out of the airport were not affected. "When the power outage first hit, we had a little bit of an inconvenience, some delays, but we got right back up. Everything is operating normally, you can see the commercial planes landing, everything is normal," says Airport Manager Peter Scherrer.
Power was fully restored around noon. It is not known yet why the cables failed.
