State to open 2 medical marijuana facilities, dispensaries in Orange County

WALLKILL -

New York state is expanding its medical marijuana program by adding two new production facilities and dispensaries in Orange County.

State officials say the use of medical marijuana has nearly doubled in recent months.  To meet the demand, the Department of Health approved the new production facilities and dispensaries in Orange County.

One of them will be operated by Valley Agriceuticals on a 139-acre property along Dosen Road in Wallkill. The location for the second production facility and dispensary in Orange County has not been announced.

For the first time, the state is allowing Hudson Valley medical marijuana patients to fill their prescriptions locally.

The state is hoping the new facilities will help make it more readily available for some of New York's sickest patients in need.
