Richard Giacovas is a reporter for the News 12 Westchester and Hudson Valley evening newscasts.
Giacovas began his career at News 12 in 2014, producing the early morning newscasts. He quickly rose through the ranks, moving on to to produce the Hudson Valley shows before securing a spot on the lead evening broadcasts. After only a year at the station, Giacovas stepped in front of the camera for his first special report on a local health doctor. That blossomed into many more on-air opportunities, including celebrity interviews with Carol Burnett, The Jackson 5, America’s Got Talent superstar Grace VanderWaal, John Stamos and many more. He also has covered multiple hard and breaking news stories including the Tragedy on the Tracks, and was one of the first reporters on the scene when a small plane went down in the Hudson River. Giacovas is also the official co-host of the White Plains New Year’s Eve Ball Drop with Lisa Reyes.
In 2015, Giacovas was the recipient of the “Business Council of Westchester’s Rising Stars - 40 Under 40 Award,” which honors those in Westchester who are making their mark in their chosen profession at a young age.
Giacovas graduated from Iona College with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications in 2013. After interning at News 12 and WNBC, he has found himself both in front of the camera and behind the scenes at News 12 once again.
Giacovas is an old soul, who loves Broadway, concerts and Barry Manilow! You can catch Giacovas on Facebook Live or at events throughout Westchester. Giacovas was born and raised in the county. He now calls Rye home.
