A Poughkeepsie woman who pleaded guilty in connection with her fiance's death while kayaking on the Hudson River could be out of jail by the end of the year and possibly deported.

Angelika Graswald has been behind bars in Orange County Jail for more than two years since News 12 interviewed her. She was interviewed just days after her fiance, Vincent Viafore, drowned on the Hudson River while the two were kayaking. Shortly after, the 37-year-old Latvian native was charged in his death.

Graswald pleaded guilty Monday to criminally negligent homicide, with a possible release coming in December.  While Graswald's time behind bars may soon come to an end, she's now facing the possibility of deportation as a convicted felon.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says that while it's a much-lesser charge, the deal was made with the consent of the victim's family and ultimately holds Graswald accountable.
