Lawmakers announced state funds to upgrade nearly 2,000 public housing units Thursday, with $88 million earmarked for Yonkers.
A total of $125 million of the state budget is to be dedicated to public housing outside of New York City, officials say.
The Dr. James O’Rourke Townhouses in East Yonkers is just one of several spots to receive renovations.
News 12 is told the renovations are expected to take place over a three-year period and will include new bathrooms, heating and air conditioning, and new window installations that will make many of the units more energy-efficient. The units will also become handicap-accessible.
Officials say construction is expected to start in the fall.
