CORTLANDT -

Police say three people were injured Monday during an accident in the Annsville Circle area of Cortlandt.

They say a van and a tractor-trailer collided around 1 p.m. near Route 9 and Rao Hook Road.

Officials say two people were inside the van when the tractor-trailer plowed into it. When emergency crews arrived to the scene, they say they found the driver of that van pinned inside.

"The side of the van had to be cut open with a saw," says Peekskill Fire Department Chief Vincent Malaspina.

Authorities say one person had serious injuries and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. They say the other two people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and are expected to be OK.

The accident shut down both roadways for hours.
