NEW YORK -

A 23-year-old Mount Vernon father is accused of beating his 2-year-old daughter to death.

Police say Derran Morris repeatedly and forcefully struck Addison Turner and her sister in the abdomen July 5 at his home at 343 South Third Ave.

Morris was arraigned Friday on murder and assault charges. The mother of the twins defended her boyfriend, saying he's not capable of such violence.

"I think it's sad one of my girls is gone," says Monique Turner. "He loved them and cherished them and honored them. He would never have done that to them."

Morris is due back in court July 14.

The surviving twin, Annalynn, remains hospitalized at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx with multiple contusions, a lacerated liver and severe internal bleeding. She was listed in critical condition.
