Hudson Valley hits the road for the holiday

HARTSDALE -

Today is getaway day for people across the Hudson Valley, and drivers are hitting the road for the holiday weekend.

According to AAA, 44.2 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home. That's an increase of nearly three percent from last year or more than a million people.

The number breaks a record for the number of travelers for the July Fourth holiday weekend.

AAA officials say nearly 38 million Americans are expected to drive, especially since gas is cheaper compared to last year at this time.

And for the more than 3 million expected to fly, air fare and car rentals are also predicted to be lower.

Transportation officials recommend that, no matter how you travel, budget extra time to deal with all the extra congestion.
