Pearl River residents rally against HS coach's dismissal

Pearl River residents rallied Wednesday in support of a high school coach whose contract was not renewed.
Kristin Oliva says her husband, high school baseball and football coach Mike Oliva, was fired last week without any specific reason.
“Out of the blue, he got an email saying he had a meeting with human resources from his athletic director, but the first words out of HR’s mouth were ‘We're not renewing your contract.’”
The community protested outside of the school district Wednesday in the hope of changing the school’s mind.
Oliva has been head coach for the past three years.  The baseball team recently won the sectional championship for the first time since 1984.
The superintendent spoke to the crowd of protesters to say that he understands the importance of the protest but that he could not comment on staffing.
News 12 has learned that a school board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
