Recent safety changes made at a dangerous intersection near Saw Mill River Road are sparking relief throughout the community of Greenburgh.
Residents, state and local officials gathered Thursday at the intersection to celebrate the changes.
"I think it's a great first step," said resident Catherine Gellas. "They did it really quickly, but I'm still concerned since Saw Mill River Road is still a little dangerous."
The changes follow the efforts of a handful of residents in the community to have crosswalks and pedestrian signals at the intersection of Ravensdale and Jackson Avenue on the border of Hastings and Greenburgh.
Supporters have told News 12 that increased foot traffic to schools in the area led residents to grow concerned about the lack of safety features near Saw Mill River Road.
They say that prior to the crosswalks, crossing the street was very dangerous due to the consistent flow of unhalted traffic.
