A ceremony was held in Rye on Memorial Day to honor those who fought for the country.
The Police Emerald Society Pipes & Drums Corps, along with a Marine Corps helicopter demonstration and display were just part of the sixth annual Veterans Appreciation Day and Memorial Day tribute at Rye Playland.
The stands were filled with veterans along with their families and friends as local leaders paid tribute to the men and woman who have served the nation. During the event, veterans and active duty members and their families received one free parking pass and up to five free rides at Rye Playland.
Many people were also thinking about homeless veterans and those who are suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, almost 40,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.
The Department of Veteran Affairs says nearly 30 percent of Iraq and Afghanistan vets have been treated for PTSD.
