Yonkers City Council Democrats and parents are calling for the city to reconsider the proposed school budget.
Parents says they are concerned about the quality of their children's education under the current budget. They say they are worried about oversized classes, cuts to arts and music programs and eliminations of staff positions.
The Democratic Caucus is now pushing to break the two-percent tax cap to bring an extra $6.6 million to Yonkers schools. They say that money would go towards literacy coaches, guidance counselors and junior varsity sports.
Democrats need two Republicans to vote in favor of breaking the tax cap. Lawmakers will vote on the issue  in the next couple of weeks.
