Students at New Rochelle High School were put to the test Wednesday to try and solve a crime.

A mock crime scene was created as part of Scott Rubins' forensic science class final exam.

"It's a culminating event from a year's worth of work where the students really get to, in an authentic way, show what they've learned throughout the year," he says.

The students worked in groups, collecting evidence like detectives to solve the murder.

"It's kind of nerve-wracking," says student Jack Goodrich. "We're put in an environment where we have to work really fast. We have to know everything we're doing and be able to do it at a consistent pace."

The students had 55 minutes to complete the exam.

"The most interesting quote I've ever heard is 'This is the most fun I've ever had on a final exam,'" Rubins says. "These are not words you generally hear as a teacher."

The students will explain who they think the killer is when they return to class after Memorial Day.
