An Ossining elementary school student is being honored for naming one of the falcon hatchlings nesting on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Officials from the state Thruway Authority thanked Emily Alvarez at Claremont School for her contribution on Monday.
The name “Puente” was picked out of thousands of submissions from local students.
Emily says her teacher inspired her choice. "She said, ‘We want names in Spanish because we're in dual language’ and I said 'Puente.' That's how I came up with the name."
Puente, in Spanish, means bridge.
An Ardsely student chose the name for the other bird - "Tarrytalon."
