'Wheel of death' performer falls 40 feet in Mt. Vernon

A performer in the UniverSoul Circus fell about 40 feet during a "wheel of death" performance at Mount Vernon's Hutchinson Field Saturday. 
The stunt consists of two large rings that spin around while performers move between them. Witnesses told News 12 that the man who fell missed his mark. 
Mount Vernon's Fire Commissioner Teddy Beale released a statement that said in part, "EMS were on scene and responded in seconds. The show resumed and all remaining shows are expected to continue as scheduled."
Circus officials releasing their own statement, saying, "The performer was fully conscious. Out of an abundance of caution, the circus has transported the performer to an area hospital for a thorough examination."
The performer is expected to be OK, but delivered quite a shock to the audience.
