Police: 10-year-old sickened after eating pot candy
A Spring Valley father was arrested after police say his 10-year-old son fell sick from eating medical marijuana candy.
Ramapo police tell News 12 that the boy's father, Ephraim Zagelbaum, 37, was charged with endangering the child’s welfare after the boy ate at least one gummy candy infused with medical marijuana.
Investigators say the boy was with Zagelbaum at a Little League game in Orchard Hill Park on Sunday when it began to rain and he asked his father if he could go to their car.  While waiting for his father, the child found the candy, ate it and became sick.
His father then took him to the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The father told police that he lent his car to his friend and the friend left the candy in the car.
A doctor from Rockland County Health Check tells News 12 that the friend most likely got the edibles outside of the state, because medical marijuana in New York is only sold in forms of oil, vape or capsules.
Police report the boy is OK and out of the hospital. They say medical marijuana must be treated like any other prescription drug and kept away from children.
