Police: Suicide victim killed Mahopac woman

A 69-year-old West Harrison man who was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound is responsible for the death of a Mahopac woman, according to police.
Carmel police say Filippo Buffone killed 75-year-old Perla Gatchalian inside her Mahopac home on Coventry Circle last Thursday. They believe Buffone, who is the father of Gatchalian’s son-in-law, killed her because he was angry over financial issues.
Buffone who lived along Park Avenue in West Harrison, shot himself in a parking lot near his home at the intersection of Park Avenue and Hancock Street yesterday.
In Yorktown Tuesday, police say they retrieved a gun that Buffone fired once on Gatchalian, which resulted in her death.
Police say Buffone did not have a criminal history, and he was not believed to be mentally unstable. They say no one else was involved in the violence, and the community shouldn't be uncomfortable. "They shouldn't be concerned….You have multiple jurisdictions working to solve the crime. I wouldn't act differently. We are a very safe community," says Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari.Police say there is no need for the community to be concerned.
