Roads slick, icy in Ossining

Very few cars were on Route 9 in Ossining Tuesday afternoon due to the heavy sleet and wind in the area.

Snowplows were out clearing the streets but having a difficult time trying to get ahead of the flakes and sleet.

"There are still people who are coming out, so we are doing what we can stay up on things, but generally road conditions are not good, so we are asking people to stay home if possible," said Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester.

Sylvester said his department was working closely with DPW crews and alerting them to streets that needed extra attention.

Officials said residents should remain inside unless there was an emergency situation.
