Storm causes near whiteout conditions in Orange County

High winds and heavy snowfall created treacherous conditions Tuesday for drivers on Orange County roads.

The worst of the storm caused total white-out conditions on I-84, hitting even the most-seasoned winter drivers hard.

News 12 saw a number of vehicles off the road and disabled in ditches as the nor'easter's whipping winds picked up snow, making it hard to see.

The heavy snowfall started overnight, accumulating quickly enough to give early morning commuters a dangerous drive.

In Chester, police officers were seen pushing a stranded driver back onto 17M. In Maybrook, News 12 saw crews shoveling out another.

Parts of the county saw as much as 17 inches of snow during the state of emergency.
