David Carslon free on bail during appeal in fugitive death case

The same judge who sentenced a Sparrowbush man for killing a suspected rapist released him on bail the next day during his appeal process.

News 12 was in court Tuesday as David Carlson was sentenced to five years behind bars and taken out in handcuffs for killing suspected rapist Norris Acosta Sanchez.

Carlson had been recruited by police to help capture Sanchez, who was hiding out in Sparrowbush using an alias. A jury questioned the use of deadly force during the citizen's arrest and convicted Carlson of manslaughter.

Prosecutors are asking for Carlson's bail to be increased, which is expected to be decided next week.
