Seniors at Rockland Meals on Wheels rally against cuts

Seniors attended a rally Friday at the Rockland County Meals on Wheels to protest proposed federal budget cuts.

The rally was organized by Sen. David Carlucci to send a message to the White House and Republicans in Congress that people feel threatened by the cuts. The Trump administration has claimed programs like Meals on Wheels do not show results.

However, the CEO and president of Rockland's Meals on Wheels program says with almost 800 meals served daily it's just not true.

"One of my jokes is that we are the biggest restaurant in Rockland County and we deliver," says Don Hammond, CEO and president of Meals on Wheels.

The seniors who rely on the program say they are middle- and low-income people who need the service to survive.
