Tarrytown teen to compete in Irish step dancing championship
A Tarrytown teen who is an Irish step dancing champion is about to defend his title in the teenage division.
Daniel Callanan, 13, holds the title Champion of World Irish Step Dancing for Boys under 12.
He competed in Scotland last year and is about to defend his title in the teenage division.
Daniel also enjoys playing video games and "sometimes" hanging out with his sisters and brother. He says Irish dancing makes him better at football and other sports.
Daniel practices 2 1/2 hours a day almost seven days a week.
He is heading back to the World Championships in less than two weeks. His younger sister, Mary Kate, will join him at this year's nationals, forging her own path.
