Spring Valley mayor blames trustee for impeachment charges

The Spring Valley mayor pointed fingers at a village trustee Friday during his impeachment trial for charges he is facing.

Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme is blaming the impeachment charges against him on Vilair Fonvil, a village trustee he appointed to fill a vacancy. Delhomme is accused of using a village car, gas cards and E-ZPass for his personal use.

The impeachment charges against the mayor were brought by three Spring Valley residents.

One incident that Delhomme is blaming on Fonvil deals with locked doors at a day camp. The mayor says Fonvil kept the doors locked even after a judge ordered they be opened. However, the lawyer for the Spring Valley residents says the case of the day camp is just one of several times when Delhomme thought he didn't need to follow the rules.

Delhomme's lawyer says in the end he will show that the mayor has done nothing wrong.

The trial is expected to last until sometime next week.
